As of recent, we’ve been rather quiet regarding the on-going changes to our Heroes of the Storm roster but today we’re finally at a point where we can tell you what’s going on. You might already know that shortly after BlizzCon this year, the roster said goodbye to Ashley 'Demise' Branson and Robert 'Robadobah' Purling as they follow their own paths.
Today ViewSonic.Dark Sided say goodbye to our amazing shot-caller Hayden 'Sashin' Kang as he looks for other opportunities heading into the 2018 HGC season. ViewSonic.Dark Sided will also be parting ways with the roster’s captain and support player Jeremy 'Moops' Setio as he retires from competitive Heroes of the Storm.
Moops and Sashin have been the heart and soul of the team since the signing of Morton’s List and was a major contributing factor towards our partnership with the team. Under their guidance, the team was able steadily rise from a 3rd place finish in season 2, 2nd place finish in season 3, to finally fulfill their year long goal of winning the season 4 LAN final in Sydney. Crowned as the best in the region, the team earned the sole ANZ qualifying spot to compete at BlizzCon 2017.
After much thought, I have come to the difficult conclusion to step down from the active roster of the ViewSonic Dark Sided Heroes of the Storm team. Over the last year the success we’ve managed to achieve as a team has been nothing short of incredible. The cinderella story that was the Dark Sided HotS team will forever go down as some of the best moments in my life.
When we first signed with DS, I promised them that we’d represent them at an international event and I wouldn’t stop until we achieved it. It’s no secret that these results didn’t come immediately, but I cannot be more grateful to DS for the unwavering trust and support through all the highs and the lows, and I’m proud to finally be able to say say that we managed to fulfil that promise and go from Pleb2Pro™. Now that the 2017 HGC has come to a close, I believe it is the perfect time for me to end this chapter of my life and start a new one.
For the future, I’ve decided to take a step back from HotS to pursue other opportunities within esports. My hunger to conquer new challenges has led me on a different path to that of my teammates and as difficult as parting with what was a year long project is for me, continuing down this path without my full efforts would be unfair on my teammates.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout our rise this last year, none of our success would have been achievable without you. It has been a roller coaster of a year and I have met some truly inspirational people along the way. While I may no longer be a the captain of your favourite HotS team, I hope you will continue to support my future venture in esports. Stay tuned O.O (eyes emoji).
Jeremy 'Moops' Setio - Retiree
This leaves ViewSonic.Dark Sided in a rather tough position and ultimately we’ve decided to disband our Heroes of the Storm division for the time being. Josh 'Hacky' Hackett and Daniel 'Morton' Morton have decided to stay with ViewSonic.Dark Sided and rebuild a roster for 2018.
This has been a real tough experience, not only for the players but myself as well. Everyone is so close and they don’t want to disappoint each other but they also have their own dreams, aspirations and goals so coming to terms with parting ways would always be tough.
The feats that Moops and the rest of the Heroes of the Storm roster have accomplished in such a short time has been incredible to watch. Before signing Morton’s List I had relatively no idea about the competitive side of Heroes of the Storm and while getting to know the team and spending time playing the game with them, I can appreciate all the hard work they’ve put in as a team. I’m incredibly proud of Sashin, Moops, Rob, Hacky, Morty and Demise and I hope we remain friends regardless of where their competitive HotS careers take them.
It goes without saying that the loss of Moops is quite the blow to the team not only as a player in game but as a role model out of game. Pair that with losing Demise and Rob and it starts to tell of quite a tough situation. With that said, I have confidence that Hacky and Morty will rise to the challenge and rebuild a strong roster as a result. In my mind, these boys will always have a place in Dark Sided no matter which path he chooses to follow in 2018 and we wish them all the best moving forward.
